Assistant Chaplain for Muslim Life

Imran Haq has a history of providing compassionate care to others, for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. This interfaith approach was strengthened during their graduate studies; where Imran obtained two Masters degrees from Hartford International University, working alongside people of a variety of religious and philosophical traditions. This work was continued during Imran’s chaplaincy work; which began at Mary Washington Hospital, located in Fredericksburg Virginia. Serving as an interfaith chaplain with a focus on Palliative Care work and End of Life care, Imran has experience working with intense emotions, including loss and grief. They also have experience providing education to chaplaincy students at the hospital, specifically around the care for Muslim patients.

After the hospital, Imran did community work, focusing on the specific needs of the Muslim community, serving as one of the chaplains for a Muslim Third Space in Washington DC, called CenterDC. In the community, Imran provided 1:1 care to the local Muslim population, talking through issues ranging from anxiety to identity issues as a Muslim in America. Imran also facilitated programming centered around grief processing, and Muslim development; including a series centered around Qur’anic figures such as Maryam and Musa (Mary and Moses), and how their stories are applicable to each of us today. Also in Washington DC, Imran was part of a push to establish a relationship with CenterDC and the DC jail, with the goal of providing religious support and resources to incarcerated Muslim brothers and sisters. Along with this, Imran supported Muslims re-entry from the DC Jail, by helping establish a re-entry Muslim support group.

Imran is concerned with how to provide resources for Muslims to reflect on their traditions, to go into the world as informed members of the Ummah, and live their lives embodying justice, equity, and compassion.
